Unlike residential broadband or a personal mobile plan, Business Internet services are provided to both Small-to-Medium and Enterprise customers with advanced features like proactive device/circuit monitoring, corporate/guest wi-fi portals, remote network access control, and others. That's what we do today.. Colony is now hiring a Junior DevOps Engineer to contribute to platform engineering and infrastructure operations, and also to help as part of the technical support team as required. The successful candidate will maintain system reliability, automating infrastructure tasks, and expanding observability capabilities.  This is a hands-on opportunity for someone early in their DevOps career who is a great communicator and ready to grow in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.. We are seeking a Junior DevOps Engineer with excellent communication skills and a strong sense of ownership. The successful candidate should have a minimum 1 year of full-time experience in related DevOps tools, and ideally has some experience in technical support.. Who You Are…. You are an early-career DevOps engineer with modern infrastructure and automation experience. You are driven and excited to work with a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment – solving real-world problems that directly impact our users. You’re comfortable with Python scripting and Docker, and are eager to expand your skills in areas like cloud services, monitoring, and CI/CD pipelines.. You're comfortable using and happy to quickly learn tools in a modern and proven stack that includes: Python, Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Elasticsearch, Terraform, GitHub Actions, and more. Finally, your technical experience is advancing rapidly and when you need some help... you favour transparency and seek out guidance from your peers or manager sooner-than-later. Finally, your pursuit of excellence is evident in your attention to detail and your history of high quality work products.. Are you prepared to improve monitoring, automate operational tasks, and contribute to platform stability?. Working Hours. . 8 hours per day, 5 days a week (Pacific Time Zone).. . While the standard hours are in Pacific Time, they may shift depending on the requirements of the role.. . Off-hours support is expected on a rotating, alternate-week basis after sufficient onboarding and training (typically 1–2 months). While on-call, you would be expected to carry a phone and laptop, and respond and remediate to critical DevOps alerts.. . . At least 1 year with Python programming. . At least 1 year with building and managing Docker images/containers. . Work in concert with technical team(s) to deliver great software in a CI/CD culture.. . Help maintain and triage devops-engineering priorities and backlog.. . Learn new technologies quickly and switch contexts with ease.. . Participate with team members across N. American time zones multiple times per day.. . Good customer service skills, especially when interacting with clients as part of technical support. . Working experience with a support ticketing system (e.g., Zendesk, ServiceNow, or similar). . Excellent in English communication, both verbal and written.. . Effectively communicate your questions and ideas to managers and peers.. . Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking to address complex system issues.. . Ability to learn new technology quickly. . A strong desire to grow within the DevOps field.. . Skills and Capabilities. Technical Skills. . Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience with Kubernetes (GKE, EKS, or AKS).. . Experience with Google Cloud Platform for infrastructure management, deployment and optimization.. . Familiarity with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tools for automating build, test and deployment workflows.. . Exposure to Terraform for automated infrastructure provisioning and management.. . Good programming/scripting skills in Python and Bash to automate DevOps workflows.. . Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) for real-time monitoring and system observability.. . Experience with Kubernetes operators, Helm charts for advanced container orchestration.. . Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL for database administration and automation.. . Network & Security. . Understanding of firewalls, VPNs, IAM, security best practices and network protocols.. . Familiarity with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Load Balancers, NAT, and subnetting.. . Practical experience with Routers and Switches (Juniper or Cisco) for network configuration and troubleshooting.. . Soft Skills. . Ability to work collaboratively in Agile/Scrum teams and coordinate across development and operations teams.. . Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities.. . Ability to ask for help when needed, with a collaborative mindset. . Additional Qualifications. . Experience working with Linux-based environments for system management, troubleshooting and performance tuning is a plus.. . Cloud certifications (e.g., Google Professional DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer) are an asset.. . Working Hours. . 70% DevOps Engineering – Monitoring improvements, change requests from others, backup management, task automation, system recovery, vulnerability remediation.. . 30% Technical Support – Responding to client tickets, and occasionally joining virtual meetings to assist with more complex support needs.. .
